one day, a couple years from now, you’re gonna look back and say, “oh my god, i’m so glad i made it through”. you’re gonna have moments where you love the world so much it makes the back of ur nose burn and you’re gonna have moments where u love yourself, even the parts you thought you would never ever like. you’re gonna have people in your life that you love, and you’re gonna have bad days, but i promise promise promise you it will be so much better. you’re gonna be ok.
Oliver is so damn clueless, anxious and unknowingly gay, and I just look at him and think, "That is the perfect portait of 19 year old me". Thank you for that.

I think it’s a common experience, especially for people who grew up before widespread use of the internet and didn’t have nearly as many opportunities to encounter LGBTQ+ representation or conversation, which is exactly why I wrote him the way I did. I’m glad to hear you and others have recognized yourselves in that. However, in the interest of not erasing parts of Oliver’s sexual identity, I’d just like to point out that he’s equally attracted to women–which contributes to his own confusion about his sexual orientation–and would probably identify himself as bisexual. (This is not to “correct” you, just to acknowledge people who aren’t comfortable at either end of the sexuality spectrum but rather somewhere in the middle.)
it’s okay not to find your soulmate in your teens. it’s okay to not have your first romantic relationship until you’re an adult. it’s okay to have never had sex or gone on a date. there’s nothing abnormal about you. don’t compare your relationships - or lack of - with anyone else’s. we all go at the pace that’s right for us.
